The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Nigeria has introduced a new award category to the annual Diamond Awards for Media Excellence. It is the Child-friendly Photography Prize, which will reward impactful photography on children’s health and nutrition.

It is open to Nigerian photographers and photojournalists whose works were published in 2023. The winner will receive a laptop, cash prize, a DAME plaque and a certificate of merit at the 33rd edition of DAME, billed for the last quarter of the year.

The award brings to three prizes that UNICEF has for the media since it first partnered with DAME in 2005. The other prizes are for Child-friendly Reporting and the Child-friendly Medium. While the former rewards insightful individual reporting of the challenges faced by the Nigerian child, the latter honours consistent and qualitative organisational discussion of child issues in the Nigerian media.
