Ugwuanyi’s wife urges mothers to be role models, flags-off 2019 August Meeting

Mothers have been charged to be role models and bridge builders in their families and society at large, displaying their qualities of nurturing, caring and impacting values on their children as well as supporting their husbands in their endeavours.
The advice was given by the wife of the Enugu State governor, Mrs Monica Ugwuanyi, during the flag-off of the 2019 August return conference held recently, at Michael Okpara square, Enugu.
She described women as “wives, mothers, leaders, burden bearers, psychologists and confidants’, explaining that “women are lifeline, investing in them unlocks untapped potentials and creates ripple effects that benefit families, communities and entire nation”.
Mrs Ugwuanyi said that the call for women to be role models has become necessary because of many challenges families face today.
According to her, mothers spend more time with their children and “the children in turn grow up living out the values passed unto them by their mothers “. She pointed out that. “where values are lacking, children grow up and display all manner of vices. ”
The governor ‘s wife said that the theme for this year’s August return conference is “Women-A bridge to a better world”
She noted that women should take care of themselves in order to function optimally. “Take a leave when you earned it, spend time with your family .” To achieve that, she emphasised that women should have good relationship with their husbands, their children, especially the girl-child, know their children’s friends, ensure they are in a safe environment and not only to provide material needs for them.
On women in politics, Mrs Ugwuanyi adviced that those going into politics should” know the right time to join” and those already there should touch lives. “Never let your ego get so close to your position that when your position goes, your goes with it ”
She explained that August meetings are annual homecoming events in the South East States. “It is a gathering of Women from the cities and diaspora to join their rural dwelling colleagues in order to deliberated and proffer solutions to issues concerning their communities”
In her goodwill message, Chief Jude of Enugu State, Hon. Justice Precillia Emehellu , urged mothers to conduct themselves in a way they should build a better society. “Women should change the society from where it today to where it should be. They must have excellency in their various endeavors and be sowers of joy, “she said.
Coordinator of Enugu women prayer network, and permanent secretary , Post primary school management board , Evangelist Favour Ugwuanyi in her opening remarks, advised women to live exemplary life, dress decently and monitor the activities of their children, especially, the girl-child.
Others who spoke at the colourful event which was well attended by women from the 17 local government areas of Enugu State and women organisations included Dr Ugwunna Nwachukwu, who spoke on the importance of immunisation, Nkiru Celestina, who gave talk on ‘safe delivery , Zonal Commander of NAPTIP, Comfort Aghoko, who spoke on child molestation, warning parents not to allow their children to be molested
Highlights of the occasion included match past, cultural dance competition, water race, dancing competition, tying of headties and knotting of ties by couples, good exhibition among others.
