Ugwuanyi presents N169bn 2020 Budget

Ugwuanyi

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has made it clear that his administration has zero tolerance for insecurity in the state and has therefore, declared war on smokers of illicit drugs.

He recently led a team of security operatives to some hideouts of drug addicts where not less than 70 suspected smokers of India hemp and other hard drug users were arrested and remanded in prison custody.

Some of the hideouts were New Artisan Market, O’Loco Gate, Secretariat quarters, Carter Street and Old Artisan Quarters, all in Enugu metropolis.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Enugu Police Command, DSP Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the report, said the operation was in line with the police and other security agencies’ resolve to rid the state of criminals.

According to him, it was part of the “Puff Adder” operation launched recently to flush out criminals from their hideouts.
He said: “Yes, the Puff Adder operation launched recently has been working and part of that operation is to fish out criminals from their hideouts and prosecute them with a view to making Enugu a safer place for lives and property”.
The PPRO recalled that “During the last press briefing with journalists, the Commissioner of Police, Suleiman Balarabe, said that some criminals were arrested at new Artisan Market who were planning to carry out criminal act. Their arrests gave clue to where criminals hide in Enugu State” which led to the massive crackdown of criminals in the state capital.
Amaraaizu disclosed that all the suspects arrested had been charged to court and remanded in prison custody.
