NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, has pledged that the Federation will do everything to prepare the U-20 National Team, Flying Eagles, adequately for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand this summer.
Manu Garba’s delightful squad, laced with star performers from the side that won a record fourth FIFA U-17 World Cup for Nigeria in 2013, swept aside African challenge, winning a seventh continental title at the recently-concluded 19th African Youth Championship in Senegal.
“We have on our hands a squad that is capable of winning the FIFA World Cup, and it is not a matter of boasting. These boys and their coaches are winners, and they can’t just see themselves doing anything less.
“I am aware the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals will take place in New Zealand this summer, so there is no time to waste. The NFF is determined that the preparation must start right now, and that is what we are working towards,” Pinnick said in Lagos, hours after the Flying Eagles pipped host Senegal 1-0 to lift the trophy on Sunday.
Nigeria will play Brazil, Hungary and North Korea in Group E of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which takes place in New Zealand 30th May – 20th June this year.
