From Bode Durojaiye, Oyo.

Two persons were reportedly shot dead on Monday in Oyo town by security agents attached to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Seyi Makinde, during a political rally.
Eye-witness account hinted that Makinde had chosen Ode-Aremo open space very close to the palace for his campaign rally .
But, no sooner had the SDP candidate and his supporters arrived the campaign venue than some hoodlums started hurling stones at Makinde and his supporters, forcing everybody to scamper for safety.
Sensing danger, the security details opened fire at the attackers, leading to the death of two persons.
This later led to a violent protest as the venue turned battle ground where dangerous weapons, such as broken bottles, sticks and stones were freely used.
The popular and ancient Akesan market became a ghost of itself, as traders hurriedly closed their shops.
Combined efforts of security agents at the event rescued the SDP candidate from violent attack by angry residents.
The protesters later moved to the palace to ventilate their anger.
