Two APC lawmakers defect to SDP

Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr Danladi Jatau, has announced the defection of two lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state.
The two lawmakers are Mohammed Omadefu (Keana) and Jacob Kudu (Nasarawa Eggon East).
The Speaker announced their resignation from the APC in separate letters submitted to him by the two lawmakers during the House proceedings on Tuesday in Lafia.
Jatau, while reading their letters, said that the duo cited ill-treatment meted out to them during the just-concluded APC primaries in the state.
“Some of us have accepted the outcome of the APC primaries in good faith.
“While some of you did not and felt that you have a platform where you will excel.
“So, I wish you the best of luck in your new platform,” he said.
In a related development, the House passed for second reading a Bill for a law to amend the Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund Law, 2025 and for other matters connected therewith.
Mr Abel Bala (PDP-Nasarawa Eggon West), the sponsor of the bill, said that the bill, if passed into law, would generate more revenue, create jobs and improve the standard of education in the state.
Also contributing, Luka Zhekaba, Musa Abubakar, Solomon Akwashiki and Larry Ven-Bawa supported the bill to scale second reading.
They said that the bill would tackle unemployment as well as improve the standard of living of the people of the state.
However, Alhaji Mohammed Oyanki, the Deputy Speaker, called on the House to find a solution to the leadership crisis in the State Education Trust Fund rather than amending the bill.
“There is a leadership crisis in the Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund.
“So, it is better for the House to liaise with the executive in order to find a solution to the leadership problem in the State Education Trust Fund,” he suggested.
The Speaker then committed the bill to the House Committee on Education to work on it and report back to the House on July 28.
