Turaki: Attack on Fayose, another low point for APC

Frontline Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has condemned attacks on Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and law-abiding citizens of the state “who were trying to exercise their fundamental right of freedom of association in a peaceful manner”.
Turaki, a former minister, who spoke through Sola Atere, Director, Media & Publicity, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki Presidential Campaign Organisation, noted that the Ekiti saga was another low point in the litany of breaches of the Constitution and indeed, the rule of law which has become the hallmark of the APC-led Federal Government.
“Imagine a governor who has constitutional immunity and is also supposed to be the Chief Security Officer of his state being brutalized by security officers. His security details are being withdrawn while movement into his official residence is being restricted. What then is the hope of the ordinary Nigerian?” he asked.
Turaki recalled that a similar ‘jungle’ treatment was meted out to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike in the past, not to talk of the Gestapo approach adopted in arresting some revered judges of the Supreme Court on mere allegations which could not be proved at the temple of justice.
This attitude, he said, is consistent with the continued intimidation and harassment of leaders of the opposition party, the PDP especially.
The presidential aspirant reminded Nigerians of his consistent warnings that the APC is entrenching a legacy of despotism, intimidation, harassment of persons or groups not sharing its views, nepotism, insecurity and poverty on the people.
“Here is a government that talks ill of its citizens at will, thereby lowering their estimation in the eyes of the international community” he regretted.
“The chicken has come home to roost with the government baring its fangs in Ado Ekiti in its desperation to win Saturday’s governorship election by hook or by crook.
“Obviously, the upcoming governorship election in Osun State and the 2019 General Elections, and indeed, Nigeria’s democracy face serious danger unless men and women of goodwill with the support of the international community rise to defend constitutional rule in Nigeria”.
