National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has been fingered as the problem of the Adamawa State chapter of the party.

The State Secretary, Mr. Phineas Elisha, said it was unfortunate that Tukur has taken side with a faction of the party that is not constitutionally recognised.

To him, Alhaji Mijinyawa Kugama remains the authentic State PDP Chairman.

He said: “Instead of the national chairman to call the two factions to a roundtable with the aim of settling us, he unilaterally decided to recognise his own faction without taking into cognizance the recommendations of the Governor Sule Lamido Presidential Committee on the Adamawa PDP Crisis”.

The secretary, who described Tukur as the father of the party, lamented that the National Chairman has chosen to sow a seed of discord in the state chapter to the detriment of the people and the development of the state.

Elisha also accused Tukur of being involved in the conspiracy that led to the declaration of emergency rule in Adamawa State, saying the declaration was purely a political invention targetted at depriving the state government of funds to execute its policies and programmes.

He said the party was reacting to a statement credited to the factional chairman of the party in the state, Chief Joel Madaki, to the effect that his faction has forwarded to Tukur recommendations that Governor Murtala Nyako, alongside key officers of his administration, be suspended for alleged anti-party activities.

He expressed regret that Tukur’s emergence has been characterized by intra-party squabbles in many states.

But in his reaction, Madaki said there was no faction in the party as he remains the only chairman recognised by the national headquarters in Abuja.

He urged security agents to arrest anybody parading himself as a factional chairman.
