The Lagos Regional Office of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Monday employed 522 engineers as part of efforts to stabilise electricity supply.
Principal Manager of (TCN), Lagos Region, Mr Iwuamadi Charles, disclosed this in Lagos.
Charles said that the employment of the young engineers was part of TCN’s contribution to reduce unemployment and boost electricity supply.
Addressing the engineers earlier, Charles commended them and said that the job was a call to be part of the nation’s transformation programme.
“You are in the right place. What makes the power industry in Nigeria is the transmission. The power industry has come to change and you are the change agent,” he said.
He also urged the engineers to be dedicated, stressing that the nation expected them to move the industry forward.
“Someone among you will become the head of transmission one day, hence you need to put your heart on it and the sky will be your limit,” he said.
Mr Francis Elughi, Deputy Director General, National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), urged the engineers to show commitment during the two-week training at the institute.
Elughi said that the two-week training would provide them the practical knowledge about the transformer and other power equipment.
He, however, warned that anyone discovered to be unserious with the training would have his or her employment terminated.
