TikTok says it removed more than 4.8 million videos in Nigeria during the first quarter of 2026 as it intensified enforcement against harmful content and strengthened AI safety measures.
The platform disclosed this in its Q1 2026 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report saying the removed videos represented 0.6 per cent of all content uploaded by Nigerian users during the period.
TikTok said 99.8 per cent of the violative videos were detected and removed proactively before users reported them, while 92.8 per cent were taken down within 24 hours.
It disclosed that globally, the platform removed more than 184 million videos, representing 0.5 per cent of uploads, reflecting continued investments in content moderation and safety systems.
TikTok said it also intensified enforcement on TikTok LIVE, suspending 120,000 LIVE sessions in Nigeria for violating Community Guidelines, about 40,000 more than the previous reporting period.
It added that worldwide, more than 58 million LIVE enforcement actions were taken, including suspension of over 50.7 million LIVE sessions and warnings or demonetisation for nearly 22 million creators.
The platform attributed the success of its enforcement efforts partly to collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and civil society organisations in Nigeria.
On artificial intelligence, TikTok said it removed more than 118,000 Nigerian posts under its policy on edited media and AI-generated content during the first quarter.
The company said it also removed more than 86m fake accounts globally as part of efforts to curb AI-generated spam and protect users from misleading content.
TikTok said that more than three billion videos had now been labelled globally as AI-generated using Content Credentials, creator disclosure tools and invisible watermarking technology.
The company said it prohibited harmful or misleading AI-generated content and required creators to label realistic AI-generated media to improve transparency.
As part of announcements made at the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, TikTok unveiled initiatives to strengthen AI literacy, improve transparency and combat AI-generated spam.
The company said it had joined the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) Steering Committee to help shape global standards for AI transparency and content authenticity.
TikTok also announced plans to launch an in-app AI Literacy Hub for Nigerian users in the coming weeks to provide educational resources on recognising AI-generated content and responsible AI use.
The platform said it had committed more than $4 million to its AI Literacy Fund and was working with organisations including the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) and Paradigm Initiative to promote AI education in Nigeria.
According to TikTok, the partnerships have generated more than 200m views since the programme launched in November 2025, reflecting growing demand for trusted AI literacy content.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, saying it had redesigned its Community Guidelines Enforcement Reports to improve accessibility and expand enforcement data across more markets.
