Three killed, houses, vehicles torched as cultists clash in Abeokuta

There was pandemonium in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Monday as suspected cultists went on the rampage.
When order was eventually restored, houses and vehicles had been torched. Three people were also killed.
The clash occurred between Aiye and Eiye cults in Ago Odo and Elega areas of the state capital.
More than 30 suspects had been arrested by the state police command.
This was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
Also, another set of cultists, close to 100, had been arrested in Ilaro and Igbesa areas of the 39-year-old state.
Freedom Online learned that some of those killed were shot and also machetted.
One of the victims just got married at the weekend.
Adejobi said: “I can assure that we are going to get the killers.
Yesterday (Sunday) in Igbesa, the command was able to arrest 84 suspected cultists and they would be brought to Eleweran. We caught them in the bush in Igbesa‎, following a tip-off, and they were arrested in the act.
“Again, we arrested another set of seven this morning (Monday) in Ilaro.‎ Altogether, we have been able to arrest close to 100 cultists between yesterday (Sunday) and today (Monday).
“We have not ascertained the cult groups that clashed. After proper investigations, the CP (Commissioner of Police) is going to hold a press briefing”.
An Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) and scores of anti-riot policemen were seen patrolling the areas on Monday.
