Students of, at least, four lyceums in France’s southeastern department of Alpes-Maritimes have received emails threatening to blow up the education facilities, according to French broadcaster, BFMTV.

This is coming just after a terrorist threat in the country was raised to the highest level,

On Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron convened a meeting of the French Defence Council to discuss the terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall concert venue in a northwestern suburb of Moscow last Friday.

As a result of the meeting, Paris raised the terrorist threat across the country to the highest level.

Following the government’s decision, students of lyceums in the towns of Cagnes-sur-Mer, Grasse, and Nice received email threats from unknown people, saying they would blow up the education facilities on Tuesday.

As a result, the French police received numerous calls from concerned parents of the pupils, the broadcaster reported.

Law enforcement officers were asked to deploy dogs to search for explosives in these educational facilities.

The lyceums’ heads were informed of the incidents and the director of the Auguste Renoir lyceum in Cagnes-sur-Mer asked students not to attend classes on Tuesday, the report said.

In October 2023, France saw a surge in bomb and terrorist attack threat reports.

The authorities said dozens of investigations had been launched.

For several days, airports across the country received such reports and many had been repeatedly evacuated.

The Palace of Versailles was also evacuated several times.

The incidents took place against the backdrop of the maximum terrorist threat level introduced in the country, after an attack at a school in the city of Arras the same month that killed a teacher.

Last Friday, the world was shocked by a shooting that occurred in the Crocus City Hall concert venue in the city of Krasnogorsk, just outside Moscow, followed by a massive fire.

A Sputnik correspondent who witnessed the attack reported that several gunmen in camouflage broke into the music hall, shooting people point-blank and throwing incendiary bombs.

The Russian Investigative Committee said that at least 139 people were killed as a result of the terrorist attack.

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said 11 people were detained in connection with the events, including four believed to be directly involved in the terrorist attack.

FSB further said that the four main suspects in the case were detained in the Russian region of Bryansk, which borders Belarus and Ukraine.

They were charged with terrorism and ordered to be held in pre-trial custody until May 22, Moscow’s Basmanny District Court said.

All of them are from Tajikistan and could face a life sentence in prison.

The Moscow suburb concert hall terrorist attack is the deadliest in Russia in nearly 20 years.
