Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday, arrested former governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, over alleged N189 billion fraud.

The former governor was in the custody of EFCC at its Abuja corporate headquarters as at press time.

A source, who preferred anonymity, said that Tambuwal, who served as the governor of Sokoto from 2015 to 2023, was being held over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals to the tune of N189 billion.

According to the source, the withdrawals are in flagrant violation of the Money Laundering (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Tambuwal, a serving senator, arrived at EFCC’s headquarters around 11:30 am and was grilled by interrogators on the alleged financial crime.
