Senator representing Ogun East, and former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has congratulated South-West lawmakers for their relentless efforts in securing the passage of the South-West Development Commission (SWDC) Bill, describing it as “a hard fight worth its while.”
He assured that the signing of the bill into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marks a new era of development for the region.

In his congratulatory message, Senator Daniel commended President Tinubu and members of the National Assembly (NASS), especially his South-West colleagues in the Senate, for their unwavering commitment to the actualization of the bill. He expressed optimism that the South-West Development Commission would accelerate economic growth, improve infrastructure, and create more opportunities for the people of the region.

“This is a landmark achievement and a defining moment in our collective quest for regional development. The signing of the SWDC Bill into law signifies a new dawn of prosperity for the South-West, ensuring that the region receives the necessary support for industrialization and infrastructure development,” Daniel stated.

President Tinubu, on Monday, signed into law three key bills: the South-West Development Commission Bill, the South-South Development Commission Bill, and the Nigeria Anti-Doping Bill, 2025. The move, described as a milestone in the administration’s efforts to promote regional development and uphold integrity in sports, was announced in a statement by Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters.

Otunba Daniel emphasized the importance of this development in fostering balanced and inclusive growth across Nigeria, stating that, “With this bold step, the President has once again reaffirmed his commitment to regional development. The South-West, being a hub of innovation and enterprise, will benefit immensely from the interventions of this commission.”

The South-West Development Commission is expected to drive industrialization, enhance infrastructure, and create employment opportunities in the region. This follows the earlier establishment of the South-East Development Commission, underscoring the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring all regions receive equitable attention in their developmental needs.

“The journey to this point was not easy, but our collective perseverance has paid off. This commission will serve as a catalyst for economic prosperity, empowering our people and positioning the South-West as a major driver of national progress,” Otunba Daniel concluded.

The signing of the bill has been widely welcomed across the South-West, with many stakeholders hailing it as a game-changer for economic development and regional empowerment.
