An angry mob, on Friday, stoned a man suspected to be a member of Boko Haram to death near the Kano Central Mosque.
The mob trailed the suspect from Kabara area of the city to Kofar Kwaru where the mosque is located before stoning him to death.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Magaji Majiya, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said before policemen could get to the scene, the suspect had been killed.
“The corpse of the suspect has already been deposited at the hospital morgue. People should stop taking laws into their hands. If there is any suspicious person, people can arrest him and hand him over to the police for proper investigation and prosecution,” the police spokesman said.
It was learnt that barely two hours to the commencement of the prayer, the local vigilance group saw the suspect making phone calls near the location of a previous bomb attack.
The mob became suspicious of him and beat him to a state of coma before the arrival of security operatives.
