A 68-year-old Kehinde Balogun, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for failing to produce a suspect he stood in for as a surety.

Balogun, whose address was not provided, was charged with perverting the course of justice, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp. Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 27, at about 4.00 p.m. at Oluyole Police Station, Ibadan.

Adegbite said the defendant defeated the course of justice by standing as a surety for one Sunday Balogun, in a case of obtaining money under false pretences.

He said the defendant failed to produce the person he stood in for as a surety.

He said the offence contravened Section 126(1) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwabusayo Osho, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety who must be a blood relation to the defendant, in like sum.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case until Aug. 21, for hearing.
