Seven months, two weeks after he was sworn-in as governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha was, on Tuesday, sacked by the Supreme Court.
The apex court declared in Abuja that the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives was not validly elected.
Ihedioha is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a unanimous judgement read by Justice Kekere-Ekun who led a seven-man panel, Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner of the March 9, 2019 election.
The Supreme Court said votes due to Uzodinma from 388 polling units were unlawfully excluded by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC was ordered to give Uzodinma a Certificate of Return.
During the election, Ihedioha got 273, 404 votes while Uzodinma got 96,458.
