Some students whose art works were exhibited at the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Arts Exhibition, to celebrate the Olympic Day celebration, have expressed their joy at the honour.
The students said in Lagos that the development would spur them to do more.
The Olympic Day Celebration which commenced on July 2 would end on July 4.
A quiz competition is scheduled to hold on July 3 and the “Olympic Run’’ would hold on July 4 at 8am at the National Stadium, Lagos.
A 16-year-old Elizabeth Shinabu of Topmost International School, Maryland who did a painting of Nwankwo Kanu, the former Super Eagles Captain, said that his reputation made her to do the painting. “Kanu is a household name that can’t be forgotten. I am proud of him and that is why I drew him,” she said.
She added that it took her three hours to draw and four hours to paint the football star. “The notice was short for me to come up with a painting and I am more than pleased by the results.
“For me to make a work this nice under a short notice means I will strive harder to make better things at my own pace, ”she said.
A 9-year-old Marvellous Ike of J.S Margaret Private School, Surulere who drew Chioma Ajunwa said he did so because of the love he had for her.
Ike said that Ajunwa was a good athlete in her time and made a record that remained unbeaten. “I loved her the very first day I was told about her and I went further on my own to know more about her.
“She’s a spectacular long jumper who got Nigeria the first gold medal and that’s history,” he said.
Temiloluwa Bickersteth, a 12-years old JSS3 student who also did a painting of Ajunwa; said he had to do the painting because she made him to like long jump.
“She is an exceptional human being and that made her Nigeria’s first Olympic gold medallist.
“I am taking part in long jump because of her and I intend to achieve her record later in the Olympics, ” he said.
The competition was the first of its type in the celebration of the Olympic Day in the country.
