Sokoto State House of Assembly has banned ‘non-indigene’ journalists from covering its proceedings.
To effect the ban on Friday, administrative workers did a headcount of journalists who are not indigenes of the North-West state and walked them out of the chamber.
When asked why they are being walked out, one of the workers said: “It is order from above”.
After the journalists were walked out, the workers banged the door.
Efforts to speak with the Speaker were futile as he was said not to be available.
The affected journalists declared that they would send protest letters to the state council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the national headquarters of the union and the leadership of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
