Six policemen arrested in Ondo over driver’s killing‏

nigeria_police_logoTO unravel the killing of the driver of an unregistered truck on the Benin/Ore Expressway at the weekend, six policemen attached to the Ondo State Police Command have been arrested.

The policemen were on patrol duty when the killing took place.

The arrested policemen are to assist detectives to unravel the person behind the gory killing as well as identify the motive behind the killing.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Wole Ogodo, who disclosed this, said the arrested policemen included all the policemen serving in and outside the state who were on duty along the axis when the incident happened.

The road being a passage among three states of Ogun, Ondo and Edo are usually manned by men from the commands.

According to him, an information was received around 2pm on Saturday that one driver later identified as Friday Igbenidion with an unregistered truck was shot and killed close to a police pin point along Ore/Benin road in the early hours of the day.

Although he said it could not be ascertained whether the police were responsible or not, he said the Command has to move in to know the truth and bring the culprit to face the law.

Ogodo said following the report of the killing, the crew members along the axis were arrested, detained and subjected to interrogation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

He said the arrested personnel would not be released until the investigation is concluded.

He assured members of the public that whoever is involved would be brought to justice.
