Six members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Osun State, on Monday, defected to the Accord Party.

The lawmakers announced their defection during the Accord Party’s stakeholders’ meeting held in Osogbo.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Clement Akanni, representing Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, predicted a landslide victory for Governor Ademola Adeleke in the Aug. 15 governorship election in the state.

Akanni urged members of the Accord Party to vote en masse and closely monitor the voting process.

He said he and five other federal lawmakers joined the Accord Party to support Adeleke’s re-election bid.

The defectors are Mahruf Adewale (Osogbo Federal Constituency); Bamidele Salam (Ede Federal Constituency); Soji Adetunji (Ikirun Federal Constituency); Mudashiru Lukman Alani (Iwo Federal Constituency); and Lanre Oladebo (Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency).

In his remarks, Adeleke said his decision to defect to the Accord Party followed spiritual guidance he received during a period of turmoil within the PDP.

“I love the PDP, but I had to leave to avoid being trapped ahead of my re-election.

“I confided in some leaders I trust and we began consultations and prayers over the situation.
“We were eventually guided to the Accord Party. As you can see, the party is first on the ballot.

“You should vote massively for the Accord Party and victory will be guaranteed for us.

“I thank the PDP family because I am part of that family. I appreciate today’s endorsement and accept it wholeheartedly. I also thank the Accord Party for accepting me,” he said.

A former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, expressed confidence that Adeleke would win the governorship election and urged supporters to remain committed to securing victory.

Adeleke defected from the PDP to the Accord Party on Dec. 9, 2025.

Similarly, the 25 PDP members of the Osun House of Assembly defected to the Accord Party on February 27.
