Simone Gbagbo, wife of former Ivorian President, Laurent Gbagbo has been sent back to detention in the northern part of the Country.

A presidential source said she was escorted back to detention by some members of staff of the UN Operation in Cote d’Ivoire and members of the Ivorian security on Wednesday.

Simone, who has been in detention since the end of the political crisis, was on May 2 transferred to Abidjan on health grounds.

The arrest of Gbagbo and his wife Simone on April 11, 2011 ended the Ivorian post-electoral crisis that is reported to have led to about 3,000 deaths.

She is being accused of crime against humanity including murder, rape and other forms of sexual violence committed between Dec. 16, 2010 and April 2011.

Rodrigue Dadje, Simone’s lawyer, who Spoke to newsmen, described her return to prison as `hasty and lacking in procedure’

“We have only heard that she has been sent back to detention, we are not sure of where she has been taken to.

“ As her lawyers, we are not told, her family members were also not informed where she has been taken to,’’ he said.

In a statement, Gbagbos’ party, the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI) said it was not sure of Simone’s current health condition before her return to the detention centre.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Feb. 29, 2012 issued an arrest warrant for Simone for crimes against humanity.

The Ivorian government recently said it had not responded to ICC’s call as it was waiting for the recommendation of its justice ministry.
