The presidential rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, on Tuesday, ended with a message from President Goodluck Jonathan, Governors Ayo Fayose (Ekiti) and Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo) to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, to show his academic certificate.
To the trio, since the certificate is a basic requirement, Buhari should not disappoint Nigerians by refusing to let them know his academic qualifications and the type of certificate he possesses.
The crowd was enraptured when Fayose showed his certificates from the primary school level.
Jonathan said: “Our campaign is targeted at young people, especially those who are voting for the first time and are not conversant with the antecedents of these people. A number of people are out to deceive us and we are setting the records straight.
“We are not hypocrites and we are not going to deceive Nigerians. They believe in hounding people into prisons for no reason, we believe in using modern information technology to prevent crime and fight corruption”.
Fayose said while brandishing his certificates: “We don’t want an analog president. These people are only good at criticising and nothing more. If their candidate is sure of himself, let him prove that he is qualified to contest”.
On his part, Mimiko declared: “Does Buhari have a secondary school leaving certificate? Buhari must be sure of his personal integrity. Did he swear to an affidavit that his certificate is with the military authorities? Ekiti and Ondo people are qualified to define who is a progressive. A progressive empowers women and extends the frontiers of education, bridges the gap between the rich and the poor and President Jonathan has done that.”
PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, said Jonathan had diligently perform his duties as the nation’s leader and he deserves a second term.
