The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) has issued a correction regarding the official title of President Bola Tinubu following repeated errors by certain media organizations and groups.
A statement released by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, Mr. Yomi Odunuga, confirmed that the clarification was personally signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
Akume, in the statement, called on both the public and media organizations to ensure they verify official titles before publication to avoid what he described as embarrassing and preventable mistakes.
“For the record, the correct and official title is: ‘His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria,’” Odunuga stated.
He further advised that any verification could be sought through the OSGF’s official communication channels, which include their social media handles: Facebook- @OfficeoftheSGF, Instagram- OfficialOSGFNG, X (formerly Twitter)- OfficialOSGF, and the official email at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).
The need for clarification arose after an error in the President’s title was noted in a national daily publication on Wednesday, May 7, 2026. Odunuga emphasized that Akume stressed the importance of verifying official information from appropriate channels to avoid such mistakes in the future.
