2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) came to an end on Sunday with Senegal recording a dramatic 1-0 extra-time victory over hosts Morocco in the final, marking the Lions of Teranga’s second success in the last three tournaments.

The clash between Africa’s two highest-ranked sides was fittingly met with an electric atmosphere in Rabat, with the home crowd in full support for the Atlas Lions.

There was a little drama towards the end of the game when several Senegalese players walked off the pitch in protest after Morocco was awarded an injury time spot-kick .

However, the game restarted after a delay of almost 20 minutes but Brahim Diaz’s penalty was saved, taking the final to extra time where Gueye scored before Senegal held on to win the continental title for the second time, having first lifted the trophy in 2022.

Morocco, on the other hand, missed the opportunity of winning a second title, fifty years after lifting the trophy in Ethiopia in 1976.
