Justice James Tsoho of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has declared as unlawful, the arrest and detention of former Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Uche Secondus.
The court also awarded N10million damages against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Secondus had approached the court to enforce his fundamental human rights, which he claimed was infringed upon by the anti-graft agency.
In the motion before the court, he asked Justice Tsho to declare his arrest and detention as illegal
He also asked the court to award damages against the commission.
In his ruling, the court said, “The first prayer of the applicant is hereby granted and the sum of N10million damages is hereby awarded against the respondent (EFCC)”.
The anti-graft had about a month ago arrested Secondus over alleged corrupt practices.
He was accused of illegally receiving buses on behalf of his party.
The anti-graft agency has asked him to return the buses.
But his party, through the National Legal Adviser, Victor Kwon, said its officers were being treated unfairly,
“The party alerts the nation that the arrest and detention of Secondus by the EFCC is part of the grand script by the APC-led Federal Government to decimate the opposition.”
