School resumption: Enugu delivers COVID-19 safety materials to PPSMB

Ahead of resumption of secondary schools for exit classes in Enugu State on Friday and in its continous effort to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government has delivered safety materials comprising of facemasks, hand sanitiser, anti bacterial wash and other materials to the Post Primary Schools Management Board for onward distribution to public secondary schools.

Speaking while presenting the items to the Executive Chairman of the PPSMB, Mr Nestor Ezema, on Thursday at the Government House, Enugu, the Deputy Governor and chairman of Enugu State COVID-19 palliative committee, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, said that in line with the Presidential Task Force (PTF) directives that guidelines must be followed in schools resumption,
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi approved the distribution of the items to the staff and students of various public schools in the state “for the protection, to make it easier for the management to be able to keep the students to observe the NCDC protocols. ”

Speaking after receiving the items, Ezeme thanked Ugwuanyi for his kind gesture.
He said: “We have a governor who is education friendly. We are indeed very grateful to the governor and members of the palliative committee. I feel great. That is the way I feel when governor does such things for schools.”

The chairman, who said that the presentation of materials was apt, assured the Deputy Governor that the PPSMB will distribute the items judiciously to public secondary schools across the six educational zones of the state.

He added that the board had recently trained teachers on COVID-19 prevention. Ezeme said that the private schools in the state have their own arrangements. “It is for the public schools. I am sure the private school sectors are making their own arrangements. I am sure that they are adequately protected”.

Present at the occasion were members of the Enugu State palliative committee and some members of CACOVID.
