In the build-up to the 2019 general elections, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has wished his main opponent, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, well.
Agbaje is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In series of tweets, Sanwo-Olu, who advised Lagosians against violence, bitterness and aggressive behaviour during the campaign, said his campaign will focus on important issues that affect the people.
“To my opponent, dear Jimi Agbaje, I may not be able to wish you victory, but I definitely wish you well,” Sanwo-Olu tweeted.
The tweet, which dominated discussion on twitter for hours, could be described as a reflection of Sanwo-Olu’s outlook.
By this message, Sanwo-Olu has again demonstrated an uncommon degree of civility not associated with political gladiators in Nigeria.
In another tweet, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said “As friends, family and political rivals go into passionate debates during this period, tempers will rise and fall. But one thing is for certain… we have but one Lagos”.
Urging supporters to eschew violence, he said “let us shun the politics of violence, aggressive conversation, hatred and bitterness. Let us remember that though we are divided in our choice of candidates, we are all united in our desire to see an even greater Lagos”.
