Sam Decent FC of Owerri on Sunday emerged champions of the 2023 Imo Football League.
The team emerged winner  after a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Emmanuel FC of Orlu at the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri.
The team, which has been around for 10 years, did not drop points on their way to the final, starting with a 2-0 victory over Paris FC.
They went on to play a 1-1 draw against CENN FC in the second game and topped their group with seven points after a 3-2 victory over Amicable FC.
They set up a remarkable encounter with giant killers of the league, Emmanuel FC, who took the league by storm.
The Owerri-based side defeated their counterparts from Orlu by 2-1 to become the new champions of the state.
Speaking with newsmen after the game, Chief Executive Officer of Sam Decent FC, Mr Samuel Amaforonye, said his purpose of setting up the team was to help discover hidden talents by starting with the Under 13- 17 and the senior teams.
“ Hopefully, we’ll rise above this level, “ he said.
The team’s players, however, promised to make the state proud at the zonal elimination play-off later in the year while preparations for the zonal games will begin immediately.
