The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Williams and Kate Middleton, on Monday welcomed their son, who is now the third in line to the throne.
The birth of the royal baby has put to rest speculation of the gender, which has dominated the press since the announcement of the pregnancy in Dec. 2012.
The royal baby boy was delivered at 04:26 p.m., and weighed 8lbs and 60z.
According to Kensington Palace, both mother and child are doing well and will remain in the St. Mary’s Hospital overnight.
The birth of the child is very significant as it is the first time since the reign of Queen Victoria that three heir apparents will be alive.
The royal baby is also the third great grandchild of Queen Elizabeth.
Meanwhile, media from around the world have besieged the St. Mary’s hospital and outside the Buckingham palace to catch first glimpse of the baby and the couple.
Prince Williams and Kate Middleton got married in April 2011.
