The Rotary Alumni Association of District 9125 has donated polio vaccine vial and cartoons of multivite and paracetamol to the Primary Health Centre of Mai-adiko, Rayfield in Jos.
The association also participated in administering the polio vaccine to children at the clinic on Saturday in Jos.
The President of the alumni, Mr James Ugbeda, said that items donated was targeted at reaching 100 beneficiaries and was part of their activities to mark their 2023 Annual General Meeting(AGM).
He said that the medical intervention was in line with rotary’s position at the forefront of global efforts in the eradication of polio in Africa and other parts of the world.
“It is no longer endemic in Africa but we are continuing the advocacy and immunization so that it does not resurface again.
“We are also giving them(children) drugs to be healthy, ”he said.
He said that rotary was also sensitizing the public to debunk misinformation that polio vaccine was targeted at depopulation through causing infertility to recipients of its vaccine.
“We want to nip it in the bud, so that such misinformation does not spread,“ he said.
He said that the AGM with the theme ”Growing and Engaging Rotary Alumni as a Strategic Partner” was to seek resolutions on making the alumni better equipped for more impactful humanitarian activities.
He said that other activities of the event was a visit to an orphanage on Friday to donate school bags and other household items to the children.
He added that the climax of its meeting would be an award ceremony to seven persons to acknowledge their efforts to humanity.
In her remarks, Ms Victoria Haruna,the State Polio Rep of rotary in Plateau, said that the exercise coincides with the polio day celebration.
She said that the large turnout for the exercise was as a result of their sensitization campaigns which educated Plateau people on the dangers of not taking the vaccine.
In his remarks, Mr Gado Chuwang, the Routine Immunization Officer of Jos South Local Government Area, thanked the association for augmenting government efforts in the eradication of polio.
He urged them to continue with their efforts especially in assisting the indigents, while wishing them success in all their programs.
Also in her remarks, the Deputy In Charge of the clinic, Mrs Martha Gosumji, also thanked the association for their benevolence, saying the drugs donated would enhance the access to quality and affordable services in the clinic.
