The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) on Tuesday appealed to the Lagos State Government and the State Police Command to beef up security around the Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos to save maritime workers from incessant robbery attacks.
Mr Godson Chukwu, the spokesman of NAGAFF, Tin Can Island Chapter, made the appeal in Lagos.
Chukwu said that many maritime workers had been victims of robbery attacks in recent times and urged the police authorities to beef up security around the area.
He cited the Coconut Bridge at Tin-Can Island as one of the flashpoints where several freight forwarders had recently been robbed on their way to work.
“Robbers engage in constant operations around Coconut area; operators are calling on both the Lagos State Government (LASG) and the state Commissioner of Police to protect lives and properties of people in the area,’’ he said.
He urged the police to deploy more personnel to patrol the area in order to completely rid it of hoodlums.
