Some residents of Sauka and Anguwan Gede communities in Kuje Area Council, FCT, have commended the council Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Sabo, for the ongoing road construction in their areas.

The residents, who spoke on Wednesday, said the project would ease the movement of motorists and traders, especially during rush hours.

According to them, the dilapidated roads and lack of basic infrastructure have hindered economic and social development in the communities.

A resident of Sauka community, Mr Jonathan Andrew, thanked the chairman for fixing the bad roads and also pleaded that the project is extended to other communities in the council.

Andrew said before now, roads in the area were in terrible conditions and had brought hardship to the people.

Mr Adams Emma, a road user, said he visited mechanic workshop at least twice a week because of the bad roads.

On his part, a petty trader at Anguwar Gede community, Mr Salisu Bulus, said the deplorable state of the roads impacted negatively on the local economy of the people in the area.

Bulus said if all bad roads were repaired or new ones constructed and linked to other communities, it would go a long way in boosting the socio-economic development of the area.

Another trader, Mr Joseph Gado, said rehabilitation of the roads came as a surprise because people in the area had lost hope in the council fixing the roads.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the area council appealed to the residents of the communities to cooperate with the contractors handling the road projects in the area.

Sabo, in an on-the-spot assessment of the ongoing road projects recently, said affected houses would be adequately relocated to enable smooth and quality work.

He said that it was important for the residents to cooperate with the council and the construction workers, saying that if completed, it will boost the socio-economic development of various communities.
