The Oyo State House of Assembly has charged Nigerians to spread love to the less privileged, orphans and physically challenged in the spirit of the Eid-el-Adha.
Hon. Waheed Akintayo, Chairman of the House’s Media and Public Affairs Committee, in a statement on Wednesday in Ibadan also urged Nigerians to fervently pray for the country.
The Eid-el-Adha, also referred to as Eid-el-Kabir, is celebrated globally on the 10th day of the last month of the Islamic calendar (Hijrah).
Akintayo, in the statement, said the House of Assembly felicitated Muslims in the state over the annual Islamic festival.
“Muslims should not only pray for themselves, but the country also and Oyo State in particular.
“They need to spread love to the less privileged, orphans and physically-challenged,” the House of Assembly stated.
It urges political leaders in the country to appropriately direct and guide, pointing out that the country would soon overcome the current hard times it was going through.
The law-making body enjoined all well-meaning Nigerians to uphold the teachings of Islam by sharing food, meat and drinks with their neighbors as well as other less privileged in the society.
It prayed for the safe return of all Nigerian pilgrims who are currently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 2023 Hajj.
The House of Assembly also assured residents that Gov. Seyi Makinde’s administration in the state would continue to take dividends of democracy to their doorsteps.
Also, Dr Nureni Adeniran, the immediate-past Chairman of Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), urged Nigerians to embrace religious tolerance and love for one another.
Adeniran, in a statement he personally signed n Wednesday, extended his warmest greetings and felicitations to the Muslim community,
“Eid-el-Kabir is a time of great significance and reflection for Muslims worldwide. It is a time of gratitude, forgiveness, and renewed faith.”
He commended the Muslim community for its devotion to Makinde’s re-election, adding that this was a sign that Oyo State has grown beyond religious sentiments.
Adeniran, who was the Deputy Director-General of Makinde’s re-election campaign council, emphasized the importance of peace and unity, especially during these challenging times.
He called on Nigerians to offer heart-felt prayers for the state, and by extension the country, while they promote harmony, understanding as well as mutual respect.
“This Eid-el-Kabir is a reminder that we are all part of one global community, and it is through love, compassion, and empathy that we can build a more inclusive and prosperous society,” Adeniran said.
The legal luminary also highlighted the significance of giving back to society, especially during this festive period.
He encouraged individuals and communities to extend acts of kindness and generosity to those in need.
