Rivers State Police Command has initiated disciplinary proceedings against ASP Ekawhe Thomas, an officer attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), following the escape of a detainee from police custody.
ASP Blessing Agabe, the police spokesperson, told reporters that Thomas has been formally queried in line with internal disciplinary protocols. The officer is currently under detention while the investigation into the escape continues.
“The officer has been detained and formally issued a query according to the disciplinary procedures of the Nigeria Police Force,” Agabe said.
Efforts to re-apprehend the fleeing suspect are ongoing, and police sources confirmed that the case remains a top priority for the Rivers State command.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that the command will not tolerate negligence, misconduct, or abuse of office by any personnel.
“Any officer found culpable after investigation will face sanctions under existing laws and police disciplinary regulations,” Agabe noted.
She assured the public that the **Rivers Police Command** remains committed to transparency, justice, and safeguarding the rights of citizens.
