A seasoned crime fighter, Vwamhi Felix Yame, has finally been promoted to the rank of a Commissioner of Police (CP).

For Vwamhi, the promotion came after years of waiting and watching his juniors became his senior.

Some of his course mates said: “Felix’s promotion is long overdue. We are happy for him. If there’s anyone that deserves it, it is Felix. He’s hardworking and a professional policeman to the core.”

Vwamhi is a worthy recipient of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) award in 2001 and 2003.

He got the much-coveted award after he resolutely fought and restored sanity in the troubled and criminal infested communities of Ajegunle areas of Lagos State.

Today, Ajegunle has degenerated to its old ways of crimes, waiting for another gallant officer like Vwamhi to come and clear up the messy crimes and criminals.

Vwamhi will always be remembered for cracking the case of the mysterious murder of an old woman when he was a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), working at Ajegunle Police Station.

The old woman was found murdered, with her hands and legs tied and handkerchief stuffed into her mouth. The investigation was already turning cold when Vwamhi’s unrelenting desire to crack the case finally yielded result.

Vwamhi discovered that the old woman’s beloved grandson was actually behind the woman’s murder. The teenager had carried out the killing with some friends. The suspect killed his granny because he was in a hurry to inherit her property.

Vwamhi has served in many police formations in Nigeria. He happened to be the first Commander of ‘Area Juliet’ (Area J), Ajah. He has also served in Yobe and Kogi states as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations.

Many policemen, including junior ones, have often described him as a gentleman and God fearing.

One of his cronies said: “He is an officer, who sees life as God’s wishes it to be. He has never been perturbed with his postings. He’s also one of the few officers in the Nigerian Police, who sees policing as a call to duty. In fact, he highly merits his promotion. We know he will perform well given his pedigree.”

Vwamhi is among 33 Deputy Commissioners of Police, recently promoted to the substantive rank of commissioners of police by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

The decision to promote him and others was reached at the 4th Plenary Meeting of the Commission held in Abuja on the 28th and 29th of January, 2019 and presided over by its Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector-General of Police.

The Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, said the nation is looking up to these newly promoted senior Police Officers to bring their wealth of experience to bear on the myriad of security problems facing our country especially now that “we are counting down to the 2019 general elections.”
