Former Minister of Education, Professor Jibril Aminu, is dead.
Aminu, also former Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Nigerian Ambassador to the United States (U.S.) and a Consultant Cardiologist, celebrated his 85th birthday on August 25, 2024.
He was a renowned scholar, politician, diplomat and a towering figure in Nigerian public life.

Aminu

Born in Song, Adamawa in 1939, his illustrious career spanned several sectors.
He was a Consultant Cardiologist, an influential educational administrator and a seasoned statesman. He represented Adamawa Central in the Senate.
Meanwhile, Senator Orji Kalu has sympathised with Aminu’s family members.
He said a statement: “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Professor Jubril Aminu, a distinguished scholar, diplomat, and politician. He was a man of great intellect and integrity, whose service to Nigeria inspired generations. As Minister of Education and later Minister of Petroleum Resources, his visionary leadership helped shape critical sectors of our country. He was a true elder statesman and very personal to me.
“Prof. Aminu’s legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched and the institutions he helped build. Nigeria has lost one of her finest”.
