Politicians loyal to Gov. Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers have said they would boycott the upcoming Special National Convention of the ruling PDP in Abuja, slated for Aug.31.
Addressing a news conference on Thursday in Port Harcourt, the Chairman of Rivers State Caucus in the National Assembly, Rep. Honourable Asita, said the boycott was in solidarity with Amaechi.
He said that the boycott was for the politicians concerned to express their dissatisfaction with the “unconstitutional suspension of the governor”.
Asita said the move also based on the recent “illegal expulsion” of some members of the party in Rivers. .
The lawmaker stated that all categories of elected and appointed politicians loyal to Amaechi were represented at the news conference.
“As the chairman of the Rivers State Caucus in the National Assembly, I have interacted with the National Assembly; 10 members of the House of Representatives and two senators support this boycott.”
“The 23 council chairmen who are delegates to the convention have also agreed to this boycott.
“We are the duly elected delegates to the national convention by virtue of our offices,” he stated.
