President Bola Tinubu has nominated Mr. Joseph Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, pending Senate confirmation. The nomination, which follows the resignation of the former minister, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, was transmitted to the Senate on Thursday, April 30, 2026, for screening and approval in line with the Constitution.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, issued in Abuja. Adelabu’s resignation came as he stepped down to pursue a political office.

Tegbe, a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert, hails from Oyo State and brings over 35 years of experience from both the public and private sectors. He previously served as the Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led significant initiatives in fiscal policy reform and institutional transformation.

In addition to his extensive experience in the private sector, Tegbe has provided strategic counsel to government institutions and private enterprises on reforms, regulatory frameworks, and investment structuring. He is also the Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he manages bilateral development cooperation with China.

Tegbe’s expertise extends into the power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms involving key agencies. His nomination is seen as part of ongoing efforts to address challenges in Nigeria’s power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investments to the industry.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in Tegbe’s ability to drive the necessary reforms in the power sector, which are crucial for improving the nation’s energy outcomes.
