Prelate urges Jonathan to beware of sycophancy, criticisms

samuel_ucheThe Prelate of Methodist Church, Dr Samuel Uche, on Friday advised President Goodluck Jonathan to strive toward improving the nation rather than react to undue criticisms and sycophancy among aides.

Uche said this while reacting to the existing security and other challenges facing the country.

The prelate urged President Jonathan to be wary of sycophancy of his aides and appointees as he steered the affairs of the country.

“My prayer for the nation is that Nigerians should not lose hope; I foresee a very great country; I foresee a bright future.

“I want to advise President Goodluck Jonathan not to panic. Let him steer the ship of the nation without minding criticisms.

“He shouldn’t see those who criticise him as enemies, probably they want him to do more and he should do more. I wouldn’t even want him to defend himself.

“He should concentrate in doing the good things that will make Nigerians want to have him back if God permits. He should not dissipate energy responding to every criticism.

“But in every criticism he should see whether there is an element of truth. He should be wary of sycophants among his appointees and others.

“If he wants to know what is happening at the grassroots, he should consult us, who are the heads of Churches, and traditional rulers and we will tell him the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

“Because the Bible enjoins us to pray for all in authority, so we are praying for him. We should all work towards national integration and cohesion.’’

According to the cleric any nation that has the fear of God and imbibes righteousness is qualified for God’s favour.
