Ritualists struck in Iju, Akure North Local Government, Ondo State, on Saturday, beheading two young girls, Oyinkansola Owoeye and Folasade Bello.
After beheading them, their blood was also drained through machete-inflicted cuts on their bodies.
One of the girls is the daughter of a policeman.
The monarch of the town, the Okiti of Iju, Oba Amos Farukanmi, was short of words.
The angry monarch said such an incident had never happened in the agrarian town.
Freedom Online learnt that the girls, who had been friends for years, went to the farm to help their parents fetch firewood.
When it was getting dark, their parents raised the alarm and a search party was sent to the farm.
Their headless bodies were later discovered by the road side.
Policemen immediately stormed the scene. Residents wept profusely when the bodies were being taken to the mortuary.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Wole Ogodo, confirmed the incident, saying they were killed by unknown assailants.
He said: “We received information that the two girls, Oyinkansola and Folasade, went to the bush to fetch fire wood where they met their untimely death last Saturday.
“Our detectives have visited the scene of the crime while photographs of the corpses were taken while the bodies had been removed and deposited at the Mortuary of the State Specialists Hospital for autopsy.
“We appeal to the people of the state to field the command with any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the criminals. Such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality”.
