The Police Command in Lagos State has detained a suspect for the alleged murder of 65-year-old Mrs Jane Okoye which occurred on April 2 in the Orile Iganmu area of the state.

The command’s spokesman, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a post he shared on his official X handle @benHundeyin on Sunday.

He said that detectives of the Homicide Section of the command apprehended the suspect, who broke into the victim’s compound to rob her.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect forcibly gained access to the victim’s premises and fled with her Toyota Sienna vehicle.

“The victim was found unconscious and taken to a medical facility where she later passed on, ” he said.

Hundeyin said that following the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for discreet and thorough investigation, a team of homicide detectives promptly swung into action

“The team deployed both intelligence and technical resources to get the suspect apprehended and recover the stolen vehicle.

“Efforts of the detectives yielded positive results as the principal suspect, who had absconded with the deceased’s vehicle and other personal items, was traced and arrested in Ankpa, Kogi State.

“The vehicle was recovered in good condition and secured as evidence in the ongoing investigation”, he said.

According to him, the suspect is currently being detained at the SCID, Yaba, where he is assisting investigators with useful information.

The image maker said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Olohunde Jimoh, assured the public that the suspect would be prosecuted at the conclusion of the investigation.

The spokesperson said that the command remain steadfast in its mission to protect lives and property in the state.
