Police to criminals: Repent in two weeks or…

The Kaduna State Police Command, on Thursday, gave all street gangs known as “Sara Suka” two weeks ultimatum to repent or face the full wrath of the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar, gave the ultimatum while on familiarisation visit to Kawo community in Kaduna North Local Government Area of the state.
The commissioner was informed that no fewer than 100 persons in the community were killed by the Sara-Suka gangs in the last two years.
Iwar vowed to address the problem squarely and urged the community for support.
“We are using this medium to send note of warning to all of them, we are giving them one to two weeks to recant and make themselves available for good work.
“We are telling them in their own interest to drop any negative work they are doing.”
Iwar said that the command was going to mount serious operations against the miscreants “if they don’t stop the act and return to normal behaviour.”
He solicited the cooperation of the community and all people in the state, so as to sanitise the state and rid it of all criminal elements.
“Community policing needs everyone, so we must work together to fight crime to the latter,’’ the police boss said.
Earlier, Head of the Kawo Elders Forum, Usman Dan-Tudo said the Sara-Suka gangs have become a major threat to the peace of the community.
Dan-Tudo said no fewer than 100 persons in the community have been killed by the Sara-Suka gangs in the last two years and the commissioner to open more police outposts in the area.
He identified areas in the community requiring police outposts to include Rafin Goza, Anguwar Dosa, Sabon Kawo, Anguwar Gawri and Bus stop.
“This will help in tackling the menace and enhance crime prevention.”
Dan-Tudo pledged sustained cooperation with the police to safeguard lives and property in the community, “as crime prevention is everybody’s business.’’
The police commissioner, who was also at Kawo Motor Park, was informed by its Chairman, Adamu Abaji that the park links commuters to all the 19 northern states of Nigeria.
He appealed for the deployment of more security personnel to the motor park for the safety of travellers.
