The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore, on Tuesday  inspected the on-going projects at the National Fire Academy Sheda, Abuja.
The Director of Press in the ministry, Mr Afonja Ajibola, made this known in a statement in Abuja.
According to him, Belgore  directed the Controller-General,  Federal Fire Service (FFS) Mr Jaji Abdulganiyu, to commence  necessary arrangements for completion of remaining work and timely inauguration of the entire projects.
Belgore said that the projects were a further contribution to safety of lives and protection of properties of Nigerians and foreigners alike .
The permsec was, however, briefed on inspected projects which showed the administrative building  had attained 50 per cent completion while the Fire House complex had been completed.
According to him, the execution level of the Breaking Apparatus Gallery Building is also put at 90 per cent.
Other projects he inspected included the Multi Purpose Hall Building, the Staff Clinic, Male and Female Hostels, and the Common Room all of which had been completed and awaiting inauguration.
On the general overview of all inspected projects, the permsec described  the various works at  the  academy as impressive.
“I hereby direct the C-G to commence immediate arrangement  for their inauguration to enable Nigerians to start reaping the benefits  of the Federal Government’s investment.
Belgore said that under the eight years administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, the  FFS had experienced  considerable leap in terms of funding and provision of infrastructure, compared to the state of affairs before the advent of this administration.
He said that the FFS was presently grossly under staffed, adding that his ministry had  written to the presidency for approval to recruit  more hands for optimal improvements in safety and rescue operations against impending disaster.
Belgore expressed satisfaction with general quality and level of job done on the inspected projects and called for fast tracking of remaining works to pave the way for early inauguration.
The C-G explained that aside the academy, it had an annex in Lagos, adding that the service had six training schools spread across the six geo-political zones of the country.
“These schools are in Kankiya – Katsina State, Maiduguri in Borno, Minna in Niger, Ummahia in Abia, Calabar in Cross River and Abeokuta in Ogun.”
He, however, promised to do the needful towards total completion of the remaining jobs and timely inauguration  of the projects.
