Brazil football legend, Pele, is receiving care in a Brazilian hospital in Sao Paulo.
Pele has been admitted for the third time in less than 12 months, with reports he has undergone back surgery.
According to Jose Fornos, one of Pele’s press officers, Pele was suffering pains on his back and underwent surgery on his vertebrae.
Mirtes Bogea, a press officer for the Albert Einstein hospital, said on Saturday she could only confirm Pele’s hospitalisation.
She said she was not allowed to say when he was hospitalised or why.

The 74-year-old Pele underwent prostate surgery at the same hospital last May. The procedure was to treat a condition that creates urinary problems because of an enlarged prostate, doctors said at the time. Tests conducted after that surgery showed there were no tumours.

He was hospitalised for two weeks in December because of a urinary tract infection that stemmed from surgery to remove kidney stones.

The 74-year-old won the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970, and is his country’s record goalscorer with 77.
