The treasurer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Chief Steve Omoga, is dead.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Chief Don Ubani, confirmed the death in Umuahia on Thursday.
Fifty-eight-year-old Omoga reportedly slumped after playing lawn tennis at the Umuahia Sports Club on Wednesday evening and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.
One version of the report claimed that the deceased died on the way to the hospital, while the other stated that he died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the hospital, Mr Darlington Madubuko, said he was not aware of the incident.
Paying tribute to the deceased, the PDP publicity secretary, however, described Omoga as an “amiable, loyal party man”and described his death as “painful.”
The deceased retired as a Director of Finance in the Special Services Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, before going into partisan politics.
