Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the only platform that all aspirants for various political seats would contest during the 2027 general elections.
Makinde, during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held in Ibadan on Monday night,
maintained that his political structure still remained in the PDP, saying there was no plan to defect to another party.
The governor equally said that all first-term lawmakers currently serving at both the National Assembly and the State Houses of Assembly would secure the tickets unopposed.
He further disclosed that the party would adopt a consensus-based approach in the selection of candidates for the governorship position and others.
He underscored the importance of party unity and internal cohesion as critical to sustaining the party’s dominance in the state.
Commenting on the outcome of the Monday meeting, a chieftain of the party in Ibadan, Mr Adamolekun Ayinde, said that the governor should focus more on the ongoing reconciliation process.
According to Ayinde, what should be paramount to the governor at this critical moment is how the two factions would reconcile to pave the way for a successful outing in 2027.
He equally said that the issue of automatic ticket to the one-term national and state lawmakers should not be, due to the current fragile position of the party in the state.
He, however, said that adoption of a consensus candidates for the governorship position and others would be good so far all the two factions agreed after reconciliation.
