olisa_metuh2The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday decried the call by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the cancellation of the last Saturday`s Anambra Gubernatorial election.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Olisa Metuh, said at a news conference in Abuja that the call on INEC by the APC was to discredit the electoral process.

“We want to alert the entire nation to the antics of the APC on the use of the instrumentality of blackmail and propaganda to attempt to discredit the Anambra election.

“This is the party’s way of creating doubt in the minds of Nigerians on the electoral system, when it was not practicable to win the confidence of Nigerians in electoral victories.

“In Ondo state, we had an election, APC came third, in Delta re-run, it came forth.

“Now, in Anambra, the result released so far, APC is coming third, but they want to discredit the entire process,’’ Metuh said.

He said the PDP was worried about the antics of APC, adding that the PDP witnessed the manipulation of APC when their supporters protested in the media.

This, he stressed was the propaganda of the highest order.

“We witnessed officers serving in Imo state Government led by the cabinet members of APC going on television claiming to be independent electoral observers and making statements to sway the people.

“The entire purpose is to create a sense of anarchy in the minds of the people and to create doubt in such a way that Nigerians will lose faith in the electoral process.

“Nigerian rejects them and the PDP decries this. We are totally against them in doing that,’’ the party spokesman said.

He said that APC only complained against an election whenever it lost and whenever the PDP wins, this, he said, was a question of selective rules.

“Whenever APC wins, INEC has done very well, when they are not wining in any election, INEC has compromised,’’ Metuh said.

The party spokesman said the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) had released a statement that INEC should resolve all genuine complains and disregard all pure propaganda deceit and falsehood.

Metuh said the party was awaiting INEC to fix a date for the conclusion of the Anambra Governorship election which it had declared inconclusive.

This, he said, was in the interest of the people of the state, genuine democracy and committed Nigerians.

Metuh said that PDP had directed its members to continue to rally round its candidate, Mr Tony Nwoye, and vote massively for him in the election.

He thanked Nwoye for showing that the PDP was the preferred party for the people of Anambra in less than two weeks of his campaign in the state.

The party thanked Anambra electorate for their peaceful conduct during the election, adding that the party would remain committed to the electoral process.
