The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is already affecting its Delta State chapter.
The Senator Ali Modu Sheriff faction in the state has suspended the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Friday Osanebi, for violating the constitution of the party.
Osanebi was suspended alongside three other chieftains, Chief Godwill Obielum, who contested the party primaries with the immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan but lost in 2007.
Others are, Mr. Ugo Asibelua and Chief Emmanuel Onyeukwu, all of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi’s faction of the party.
They were suspended indefinitely for personalising the constitution of the patty and disregarding some laid down principal guidelines for the conduct of congresses for the party.
They were also suspended for convening a controversial conference, which the party tagged, “an illegal meeting”, where some disgruntled elders and leaders at a private home of one of the suspended chiefs in Ushie town in the council on January 29, last month publicly discredited the party.
Sequel to an enlarged meeting of the party at Ibredeni, Ward 8, in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, where new party executives were inaugurated on Wednesday, the party chairman, Chief Kris Oputah, said the suspended persons were caught in a mischievious circumstances in their constituencies against the tenets of the party.
In a statement by the chairman, dated February 1, 2017, the party lamented that those suspended have fractionalised the party in the council area through sycophantic syndrome.
“It is disheartening that those who wish to be taken seriously as wanting to lead the people of Ndosimili could descend so low to personalising a constitutional matter of the magnitude of party congress.
“We have been patient all these while, now is the time to halt their arrogance and perpetual falsehood. They cannot continue to paint lurid picture of Ndosimili people as uneducated, uninformed and lacking in true leaders.
“Their genial disposition of Ndosimili people by trivialising the injuries they have inflicted on the people by their mediocre leadership and flagrant abuse of the privileges conferred on them by the mandate of Ndosimili people and their conniving cohorts.
“The party in Ndokwa East hereby suspends them with effect from February 1, 2017, indefinitely”, the statement reads.
