Former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida; Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Tony Anenih and former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, after a meeting of the BoT with PDP faction leaders in Abuja on Friday.

The former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, said on Friday that “the family dispute” within the ruling People Democratic Party (PDP) would soon be resolved.

Obasanjo said this at a news conference in Abuja shortly after an eight-hour meeting with other elders of the party to resolve the crisis that engulfed the party.

The PDP has been embroiled in crisis since Aug 31 when seven governors and some prominent members of the party walked out of its special convention and went ahead to announce a new set of national officers.

He said that elders of the party were making concerted efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis rocking the party.

The former president affirmed that there is “a family dispute” within the party which called for concern of all loyal party members.

“The crisis brought all of us together to prevent the party from going to brink, ’’ he said adding that it has become imperative that elders in the party should not allow such dispute to go unresolved.

“Five selected elders of the party have taken it upon us to prevent the worst from happening to the party.

“Two of us, Chief Alex Ekuweme and Chief Solomon Lar are abroad, but whatever we do we carry them along and relay back to them.’’

Obasanjo said the elders had sat and heard from the two warring sides, which he said would help his team to proffer solutions to the crisis.

The meeting was attended by former Head of State, Gen Ibrahim Babangida, Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih and a former Chairman of the party Chief Amadu Ali.

Also present at the meeting were governors; Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Idris Wada, (Kogi), Seriake Dickson, (Bayelsa), Ibrahim Shema, (Kastina) and Isa Yuguda of Bauchi.

Others included governors Aliyu Wamakko, (Sokoto), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and Sule Lamido (Jigawa) and former governor of Osun state, Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

Senators Bukola Saraki, Danjuma Goje and Barnabas Gemade, who was a former party National Chairman, and the immediate past Chairman of the party, Kawu Baraje were also part of the meeting.
